Murder of Joe Cinque
We know a number of people who have made India famous abroad with their brains. Some are also notorious abroad for the crimes they commit. Anu Singh is the name of the Indian criminal in such a murder that shocked Australia.

Anu was born in September 1972 in Punjab, India.
Both father and mother were doctors.
They moved to Australia when Anu was one year old for better living conditions. Later Anu’s life did not have any shade of India. She became a descendant of Australia.
Until the age of five, Anu’s life revolved around his mother.
Even bed with mother. Anything, anything needs a mother.
Her mother says she has been a drama queen ever since. Attention is always needed. The ants will show up for that.
It was the same at school. He would do anything to get everyone’s attention on him.
From the time Anu was thirteen years old, Anu’s behavior worsened a bit, not only was he a rebel at home, but he was also cutting classes at school, spending time with boys, going to movies, clubs, and drinking alcohol.
To some extent the reason her family didn’t stop her was because she was always ahead academically. Despite the inconsistency, her grades were top of the class. So the teachers also pretended not to see anything.
But they turned a blind eye to a criminal.

She started using drugs only when she entered college. Although she had several relationships, she fell seriously in love with a classmate named Simon Walsh.
She also started living with him.
When she was twenty years old, she became pregnant by him.
But they destroyed it and threw it away, thinking that it should not interfere with the study.
After that, Anu gets angry with Simon.
She roamed the clubs and dance floors without him. That’s how she met a young man named Joe Cinque in New Castle.

Joe Zink’s parents immigrated to Australia from Italy. His father and grandfather worked as civil engineers for a construction company there.

Joe also took the same civil engineering and passed. The Cinque family gave him a round-the-world ticket right after graduation. Besides him, they had a son with them.
To their mother, Maria Cinque, those two children were the world. Joe and his brother grew up very obedient and disciplined. At a young age, Joe helped his mother to raise his younger brother and take care of the house.
Joe helped his mother with everything after she suffered a severe leg injury in a car accident.
Joe was also a very mature, very helpful, active sportsman. As part of Joe’s mother’s disciplinary habit, it is mandatory for all four of us to eat dinner at 6 pm. If in the country, everyone should reach the dinner table at that time. No one should look at the phone or TV at that time. It’s time for family. Then you have to say everything that needs to be said to each other. Food prepared by mother should be enjoyed hot. That one hour should always be reserved for the family. Similarly, even if you go out of the house, you should call home at a certain time in the evening. Joe grew up under this discipline.

It is Jo who falls in love with Anu Singh who does not know the lesson of discipline.
This love was unknown to Anu’s then boyfriend Simon.
With that, Simon left her. Later she moved to Canberra, Australia. Anu Singh was a law student at the Australian National University there. Anu did not fail in his studies as before.
But when she fell in love with him, she kept complaining that her romantic relationship with Joe, who was working far away, was not going well. She kept telling him that he was her world and hence she couldn’t be separated.
He used to drive 400 km every weekend to see her and spend two days there and back.
Joe’s mother had a good complaint about this. But she kept forcing him to come and live in Canberra because he didn’t want love from afar.
Maria Zink didn’t like that either. She started calling Joe every evening at 6pm. Maria Zink advised Anu several times not to call during their family dinner, and to call after an hour. But Anu did not comply and kept calling at exactly 6 o’clock.
After serving the plate, the mother and son started arguing about going to talk on the phone.
One day Joe brought Anu to show his family.
Her undisciplined behavior did not go down well with the family. She was very possessive of Joe. When her father starts talking to Joe, she tries to hug him from behind, kiss him and end the conversation.

She took every moment to keep Joe’s attention solely on her. This made Joe’s family look down on her. But Anu, who once set her mind to do it by any means, transplanted Joe to Canberra.
John’s move to Canberra was the biggest shock to Joe Sink’s family. But Jock, who was very caring towards everyone, felt that Anu needed his presence the most. So they started living together in Canberra.
Anu Singh was very concerned about his body beauty. She used to tell her friends that she would rather die than gain weight.
She spent a lot of time on dieting and exercising in the gym. Joe’s mother often complained that she was too thin.
When she was dieting a lot, she became very skinny.
Then she suspected that she had AIDS. The very doubt made her a patient. Despite knowing that she was AIDS negative, she suspected that she had something serious.

She didn’t care, even though the doctors said she wasn’t sick. She firmly believed that she was a great patient.
Gradually she became a hypochondriac.
Hypochondriac is a specific mental condition. They always have a feeling that they are terminally ill. They are always concerned about their health. If you get a headache, you might think it’s a brain tumor, stomach ache, or cancer.
Even doctors find it difficult to understand that they are not sick.
They will be angry with those who say so.
It is also the attention syndrome of making yourself sick to get attention from others.
Such was the state of mind of Anu Singh in this case. Along with that, a condition called bulimia also came. A condition where you eat a lot of food and then gobble it up feeling guilty.
All these are different levels of depression. So the parents advised to see a good psychiatrist and they found one.
But she did not attend any treatment. On the other hand, she wanted the attention she would get if she became a patient.
Joe tells her about the drug Ipecac.
It is a medicine given to those who have ingested poison to calm them down so that it can pass out. She used to consume the medicine immediately after eating fatty food.
All this caused her to become a real mental patient later. She also started getting angry with Joe for telling her about this medicine. From then on, she started planning to kill Joe.
Anu’s mind was very complicated. She told a friend one day.
I have some people to kill.
One is ex-boyfriend Simon Walsh, then Joe, and then some doctors who say they are not sick.
Her unbalanced diet partly contributed to this state of mind. People who take various drugs to lose weight, called fad diets, have these problems.
She says it’s another reason to kill Joe. Joe is her world. She will die soon as she has terminal illnesses. Then he will be alone. Sometimes he loves another girl. It’s something she can’t stand. So kill him! She confirmed.
But she told her friends that we have a suicide plan. We will implement it.
In fact, Jock had no knowledge of such a plan. Moreover, Anu’s character was beginning to become unbearable for him.
He had told his younger brother that he had decided to leave her. Maybe Anu came to know that and made such a plan. who knows?
Anu’s friends were all drug users. People with a certain mental condition. Even though he and his partner said that they were preparing to die, no one stopped them. A group of friends who believe that every man has the freedom to decide what he wants to live or not.
Anu threw a good bye party for them.
Everyone who attends it (except the jock) knows the purpose of the party. But no one stopped them. Alcohol and drugs were poured into the party. Joe also attended the party without knowing this.
Anu’s plan was to buy a gun first.
Anu’s close friend Madhavi Rao helped her for that.
But another friend advised that it would be better to inject a large amount of heroin than to shoot it. She was also trained to give injections intravenously.
People will suspect that he died of a drug overdose.
But after the party, Anu could not take the injection properly. Only a small amount goes in. So Joe woke up the next day with a slight hangover.
But Anu was not ready to give up. A goodbye party was also organized.
It was the soul friend Madhavi Rao who stood together for all this. This time she did exactly that. First, Joe’s coffee was laced with the drug rohypnol. After Joe was exhausted, Wayne found him and injected him with heroin.

Joe struggled with death for 36 hours. Anu, a criminal, left Joe, who was exhausted, to die.
For these 36 hours she had watched him die inch by inch. She told a friend, Len Mancini, about this when the first attempt failed. She had said that she would complain to the police that day, but Anu and Madhavi joined her and understood her. Anu also assured her that he would commit suicide after that.
Heroin was organized by her husband. After 24 hours and still not dead, Anu again called Madhavi and Len Mangini.
Len forced her to call an ambulance right away.
But Anu was not ready for that. When he threatened to call an emergency ambulance himself, Anu finally agreed to call an ambulance.
But she called an emergency ambulance and asked what she should do if someone overdosed. She did not give clear answers to any of the questions they asked. She was just wasting time.
Finally, she gave them the wrong address and delayed them again. But after finding the location of the called number, they reached again after 20 minutes.
Joe was still alive as he lay naked on the ground below the flat. But she acted hysterical in front of the rescue workers and again delayed the rescue operations as much as possible. It was they who saw all this and raised the suspicion to the police that this was a murder. Because by then she had ensured that Joe was dead.
She confessed to the crime during interrogation. The police immediately dismissed the suicide plan. Because she could have killed herself if she had wanted to while Jo struggled to death for 36 hours. But she made no effort to do so. Not only that, she watched his death struggle for 36 hours.
Madhavi Rao, who cooperated in everything, was also arrested. All Anu hysteria played out in the trial. Anu got only eight years of imprisonment. She was in jail for only four years after parole and exams. Madhavi was also released from jail after serving a short jail term.
Joe’s parents smelled danger when they got a call from the police. Joe’s mother asked the police who came to the house
“She killed my son didn’t she?”
As if they expected it.
Madhavi changed her name and identity after getting married and living comfortably in America with two children.
After Anu was released from jail, she pursued further studies in criminology and after passing it, she was awarded a doctorate for her research in 2010. The subject is the fun. Her research focused on five factors that lead female criminals to commit crimes.
These were all her inventions.
- One is unstable upbringing.
- Two physical and sexual Harassment.
- Three the use of drugs.
- Four economic instability.
- Five is mental illness.
Her research has generally suggested that women offenders’ problems can be detected early and corrected.
Joe’s family still complains that their son did not get justice. In an interview given to a channel when she was released from prison, she said that she was mentally ill and was not in a position to recognize what reality was and apologized unconditionally to Joe’s family.
But this was Joe’s mother’s reply.
“She destroyed the most precious thing in my life. As long as there is life in me, she has no mercy. She is the devil. She doesn’t deserve forgiveness.”

Even today they are fighting for justice.
This story has been made into a book by author Helen Garner called “Joe Sink’s Solitude”. A movie with the same name was also released in 2016.
Many people in Australia still believe that Joe Sink did not get justice.
